The 100 Day Project Continues

Days 28 – 36 of the 100 Day Project by Lisa Flowers Ross.

I am now about 3/4 of the way through the 100 Day Project, a daily art commitment. At first, I started painting in a small sketchbook (about 5-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ square). There are 50 paintings in my sketchbook. All of them started with something I saw. They vary in degrees of abstraction. (See days 1-27 in my previous post.)

Because the paintings were taking me quite some time to do, after #50 I decided to switch to making 5″ x 5″ mixed media collages using found materials and original prints that had gone awry. I did these on separate pieces of paper.

Then, working on the collages felt too much like the Daily Exploration project I had done last year where I also made 5″ x 5″ mixed media collages with found materials.

So, as you can see from the last two pieces in the previous photo, I switched back to painting. I am not sure if I will stick with the painting all the way through to 100. But if I do, I want to explore a different way of approaching it. I think I will just draw something (not from reality) and try to experiment with the paints, see what I can do and what things I like.

From the first 50 paintings, I learned that I prefer regular acrylic paints and a square brush. Hopefully, I can learn some more as I continue to paint.

If you want to follow along with this daily art project, I have been posting each piece as I do them in the stories of my instagram account. I invite you to follow my account and join me on this journey.
