Fabric Dyeing

fabric dyeing

I did some fabric dyeing not too long ago. I use hand-dyed fabrics in my textile artworks. During the summer, I dye my fabrics outside in the back yard when the weather is above 70 degrees (Fahrenheit). This time the temperatures were above 100 degrees and that might have been a little too hot for my very low-water immersion technique.

A Year in Review

Artwork

At the end of the year, I like to review what I accomplished with my art throughout the year. As the pandemic continued in 2021, some exhibitions and events were cancelled while others were in-person. I was excited to have artwork accepted by the Studio Art Quilt Associates group to be shown at Intersect Chicago. Unfortunately, the in-person event was cancelled due to Covid-19 concerns. However, a video of the artwork that was selected for the SAQA booth can be seen here.

Daily Press/Press Daily Artwork

Daily Press/Press Daily by Lisa Flowers Ross
14-1/2″ x 22″

Some ideas take longer to brew than others when creating artwork. Daily Press/Press Daily is a new artwork I created that is quite different from what I have been doing. My brain took its time to let the elements of this artwork come together. The base structure is a letterpress drawer that used to hold typeset pieces for printing. In the past, newspapers were printed by hand with each letter or image being set into the press. The drawers held the many pieces needed to create an article. That is where “Daily Press” comes into the title of the artwork.

Commissioned Artwork – Teton Tranquility

Commissioned artwork Teton Tranquility by Lisa Flowers Ross.

Last year, I was chosen to create Teton Tranquility, a commissioned artwork for Sage Living, a new assisted living facility that was being built in Jackson, WY. Specific themes were selected for different areas of the facility. My design is an abstracted landscape of the local Teton mountains. Once the design was approved, I started work on the piece.
